As a sculptor, Chris Hargreaves has always been a maker and inverntor of objects, which has led him to explore the possibilities of what happens when familiar objects when they are re-conceptualised. He says, “nostalgia and memory can distort our perception of what is actually real and individuals and societies build relationships with material objects within the canon of contemporary art practice.”

His recent work has used facetted and reflective surfaces to create “a sense of optical confusion and distortion of the environment surrounding an object.” This work continues that theme to create and internal space that absorbs the viewer and questions the physics of what is up or down and what is inside or outside. He says, “The metaphysical discourse in confronting the viewer with external imagery in an internal space will prompt reflection and thought of existence, object and space.”
